Underground Experimental Experience Edition 22: Perfect Nails - II

Blasting through western Massachusetts sound walls and offering enjoyment, Perfect Nails comes out with their second album. Cleverly, the album is Titled “ii”. I say cleverly because if the name was catchy and the masses found out about this album, the world would not be the same. The fabric of the average ear would greatly improve despite incoming tinnitus and potential electrocution from how good this album is. On “ii”, Perfect Nails is 1/2 drums and 1/2 guitar, and even though this sounds like a standard setup for an experimental rock duo, they are anything but a standard experimental rock outfit to me, nor just an “experimental rock duo from western mass”. A guitar that sounds like a droning laser and drums played with no remorse does not deserve to be bastardized.

I think that this album takes a lot of influence from what Funky Kong would listen to in 2003 on your GameCube because this album has a bodacious and radical sound that reminds me of skateboarding montages, orange sunglasses, race cars and anything that would be in the “Encyclopedia of Cool”. There’s so much energy and passion behind the guitar work and the drummer has unrelenting momentum and intention, they both capture what I love about experimental percussion and guitar well and with their own taste to it. I hope they have a physical release of this or a Bandcamp link later on but for now, listen online.
